Tolkien’s Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings, and Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles
20/20 Promise
Thanks to both her mixed Irish/Filipino heritage and her strong moral compass, Tauney feels strongly about social equality issues and is intensely dedicated to combating the modern evils that we all face, particularly the rise of neo-fascism and authoritarianism around the world. With no compunctions about protecting the innocent from harm, she is the first to step up and see to the physical and emotional needs of protestors, conscientious objectors and activists doing the “real work”.
She would also really enjoy getting folks to stop “white knighting” for people of color, as self-deputized white saviors (“That would be fucking great…”). Add a hint of sriracha, and a twist of perspective, so that all can gaze into the steaming depths and see their slight touch of hypocrisy in their makeup. And then drink the tea.
Tauney Kennedy
Troupe Manager. Props Mistress. Historical Consultant.
“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.” – Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
A historical reenactor of the French and Indian War, The Golden age of Piracy, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, The Civil War and Mid-Victorian Era, and the mid-Edwardian Period, Tauney Kennedy has been educating the American public along the East Coast for the majority of her life. In 2010, Ms. Kennedy became Co-Owner of the Big Bear Trading Company, a historically oriented vending operation. As Co-Owner of Big Bear, she became involved with the east coast Steampunk scene, both vending and sponsoring other performers. In 2013, Tauney officially joined SteamFunk Studios, first as a performer and then as the Costumer and Props Mistress for several in-house photoshoots. Over Time, Tauney became the Primary Troupe Manager, coordinating hundreds of hours of convention content, training many of the company’s performers, and assisting upper management as needed.
As a third generation living historian and the child of unabashed nerds, some of Tauney’s earliest exposure to literature and pop culture were things like JRR Tolkien’s collective literary works, Star Trek, The X-Files, Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, and European and Egyptian mythology. Once Tauney was old enough to select her own programs on TV, She immediately fell in love with Anime, including titles such as Sailor Moon, InuYasha, Rurouni Kenshin, and other classic examples of early 90’s anime. She also had several family members who would play classic cames such as Dungeons & Dragons, which piqued her interest in roleplaying at an early age.
Today, when Tauney isn’t contributing as a subject-matter expert for writers of The Unconventional, she continues her work as a historical reenactor, the co-owner of Big Bear Trading Company, Office Manager for TheNerdy Duo Digital Media Production Company, and Primary Troupe manager for Steam Funk Studios.
